MEETING AS PEERS - PROJECT VISITS PROVIDE UNIQUE PERSPECTIVES
The Umckaloabo Foundation makes it possible for dedicated people to experience unique perspectives about the work we do in southern Africa. Thanks to financial support from the Schwabe Group, participants in special project visits can visit areas the Foundation helps and see our work firsthand.
The focus of this travel is face-to-face meetings. Travelers encounter our project partners as peers, whether it is a tour of a primary or secondary school, a daycare center or a vocational-education facility. In the course of their trip, they not only receive an authentic impression of the everyday lives of many South Africans: they also see the challenges which institutions face — everything from a lack of resources to structural obstacles in the educational system.
FIRST TRIP TO MALAWI IN 2024
One particular highlight was the first project visit to Malawi in 2024. Despite the partially difficult conditions they faced, the travel group was able to visit different schools as well as Scout troops. The encounters which took place created unforgettable impressions and enhanced the participants’ understanding of how important sustainable education work is. Project visits are more than just trips: they build bridges between cultures which are held upright by respect, curiosity and the common goal of creating future perspectives.
