We say thank you!
15 years of the Umckaloabo Foundation! This is not only cause for celebration; it is a good occasion to express heartfelt thanks. Without the trust, support and dedication of so many people, our work would not be possible. We wish to thank everyone who has accompanied us with their ideas, financial contributions, encouragement and appreciation. Every one of you has allowed us to build these past fifteen years of solid work by the Foundation.
Very special thanks go to the Schwabe Group. Since the Foundation was first created, Schwabe has made a steadily growing financial contribution and has supported us with the expertise and enthusiasm of the Group’s employees as well as the long-term strategic perspectives of its management.
Our donors are the people who truly make our projects possible — no matter the size of their gift. We also thank the Africa Runners, who cover thousands of kilometers year after year in more and more countries as they bring their enthusiasm to raising funds for our project A School In Africa. They have initiated an international movement which creates bonds and motivates people.
Donors who offer scholarships give children from disadvantaged families an opportunity to receive an education and pursue personal development. Their contributions change lives and open up a future.
Our thanks further include all of those who work on behalf of our goals, take part as volunteers or help facilitate intercultural encounters. Their dedication is a meaningful part of our Foundation’s efforts.
Profound gratitude goes to our project partners in Zambia, Malawi and South Africa. Their visionary ambitions, unwavering commitment and organizational strengths have made it possible for us to bring to life wonderful large-scale education projects for the past 15 years and to create a long-term impact. They — like us — bring motivation and persistence to promoting good education and opportunities for young people. Many times they manage to achieve far more than what was expected, and they do so under difficult conditions.
Louisa Feiter also deserves a special heartfelt thank-you: her pictures not only create dynamic images for our Report but bring us closer to the world of everyday life in southern Africa.
Last but not least, our thanks to Holger Brommer and his team at Feuereifer for the pro-bono design of this report. They put our thoughts and words into a dynamic visual form, which further supports the Foundation's work, and for that, we say many, many thanks!

Perspectives
The world around us is in the midst of turbulence. International order and the rule of law are both being put to the test. The development horizons for countries in the global south are not clear. What is clear, however, is that we want to continue pursuing our efforts consistently so that we can keep giving people in southern Africa a perspective in terms of having a better future. We want them to be able to take matters into their own hands and have the opportunity to make a difference, both individually and in their community. The prerequisite for this: having a proper education. And for us, this means more than knowledge in the formal sense: it means positive values towards society. That is the only way lasting changes can be made.
With the assistance of our partners, we support projects which align with these principles, and we always take into account the full range of the educational spectrum — from early education all the way to vocational training. Education is a life-long process. Here in Europe we seek out people who will work with us on these goals. It doesn’t matter whether they serve as a volunteer, finance a scholarship or contribute funds: every kind of involvement is welcome.
