Zwei Mädchen im Mants'ase-Kinderheim in Lesotho

Help for children in need – Mants’ase residential care

The Umckaloabo Foundation guides and supports its partners and projects on a long-term basis. And that is just as true of our educational projects as it is for our funding of the Mants’ase home for children in southern Lesotho. Some 50 children live here who do not have anywhere else to live, either because they were orphaned or because their parents abandoned them. Many of them had to endure violence.

A home in a large family

The Mants’ase Society attempts to create a home for these children by creating a structure much like a large family either until they are adults or can be reintegrated into life with immediate or distant relatives.

Without Mants’ase, these children would be left all alone to deal with the unimaginable situations some of them have had to endure.

The government does not offer any help whatsoever for charitable organizations such as the Mants’ase Society. The home, which opened its doors in 1979, is financed solely through donations from a variety of sources. As a result, having a steady stream of regular and long-term funds is indispensable to its work. The Umckaloabo Foundation contributes €10,000 a year to pay for natural gas, staffing costs and minor repairs.
