SOUTH AFRICA – Breaking ground for a bright future

Groundbreaking for the new Montessori daycare center in Walmer Township, South Africa

Children are taking their future into their hands! Even though the children breaking ground on the construction site is only the first figurative step in building the Montessori preschool in Walmer Township, South Africa, the gesture is still extremely meaningful: creating a space for children where they can grow up confidently in a loving and inspiring environment, develop their own ideas, be active and explore their potential.

Umckaloabo Foundation supporting the Montessori preschool with €100,000

The Umckaloabo Foundation is providing €100,000 in financial support so the Masifunde educational center can build and expand the Montessori preschool. Some 30 children have been attending preschool there since 2018. The facilities they use have become worn down over the years, and ultimately the plan is for up to ninety children to attend the school. Construction is scheduled to begin after Easter and be complete by the end of the year.

Early-childhood education creates perspectives

The children in Walmer Township often come from turbulent backgrounds, but here they can find a second home and be properly prepared for elementary school. Access to early education will help contribute to a positive schooling experience and opens up doors for the children to have an independent and solid future.

Schwabe Group employees get to know the projects

A group of Schwabe Group employees was able to experience the ground-breaking ceremony in person. They traveled to the region on a tour they paid for by themselves, and there they were able to see the projects which the Umckaloabo Foundation manages and (co-)finances.
