Our project partner Masifunde set up Lavel’iLanga Montessori Preschool in the heart of the Walmer Township in South Africa. This school currently offers high-quality education and development opportunities to 33 children ages 3 to 6.

This option to pursue a good early education will soon be available to more children. The ground-breaking ceremony for the new building was held in April, and construction is slated to be complete by late 2024. The pre-school is to be opened in March 2025, and the expanded facilities accommodate up to 100 children. Lavel’iLanga Montessori Pre-School will offer a sheltered space where children can learn and grow independently, even if they come from challenging family backgrounds. The focus here is on fostering security, appreciation and independence.

The Umckaloabo Foundation has supported the construction project with €100,000 in funding.

Working together for early education

Masifunde prioritizes making education accessible and equitably available. The Montessori preschool is a role model of how poverty can be combatted through a good education at a school where children are appreciated. This opens up new perspectives not only to the children themselves but to their families and the entire community.
