Ready for use starting in May

Ekuphumleni Secondary School in Whittlesea is receiving five new classrooms! There was a need to re-build the school facilities after a devastating fire destroyed some of the rooms. Work has made so much rapid progress that the rooms are scheduled to be used starting in May, when they will be turned over to the school’s students.

And these learners really deserve it! Year after year, students graduate with excellent grades and recommendations to study at a university. They particularly excel in the field of natural sciences.

The Umckaloabo Foundation regularly makes substantial contributions to these students’ successes: in the meantime, 11 of the total of 23 classrooms were built by the Foundation. 2019 marked the first year that the Africa Runners were active on behalf of the Ekuphumleni secondary school.

A project trip to the schools

Those who went on the 2025 project trip were able to see for themselves how construction is proceeding. In late March, the visitors were received at Ekuphumleni secondary school with a warm-hearted reception, and they were able to visit the school – construction site and all – as one of the stops on their itinerary. The students communicated the energy and special atmosphere of the school through dance, a choir performance and conversations between teachers, children and travelers.
