Makululu proudly presents …

The 2022 Africa Runners’ project has gone from a dream to a reality! With the help of the 2022 Africa Runners among others, Makululu Combined Secondary School was able to build new classrooms, a home-economics facility, a library with a reading room, and an administrative area. The school can now take in more students: soon enrolment will increase from 850 to 1,200.

A future for young people and the region

The special focus of this school has made it possible for its graduates to complete secondary school with a technical degree, and that greatly improves their prospects on the labor market. The new facilities will allow them the option of attaining a degree which will qualify them for university studies. This is an outstanding opportunity for young people to take their future into their own hands.

The city of Kabwe and its inhabitants will benefit as well, because young people with professional qualifications mean good future perspectives for their families and the region.

A school for unhoused children too

The Salesian order Don Bosco also operates a home for unhoused children on the grounds of the secondary school. There are large numbers of children and young people who escape the difficult circumstances of family dysfunction by living on the streets. The current documentary RESCUED from the STREET | Don Bosco Macululu conveys the situation which many Makululu children grow up in and how the Salesians offer them a home away from home.
